Your Snowflake Stopper Could Keep Your Summer Wedding Nice and Cool
By Terry Price When it comes to planning your wedding, there are plenty of things you need to think about and there never seems to be enough time to do them all! There are lots of different topics that you should be familiar with prior to planning and arranging your wedding. Everything from flowers to photographers, right down to the snowflake shaped wine stopper. You should do some homework so your wedding day will be the truly enjoyable event that you want it to be! You have only one chance to make this day as perfect as possible. When booking your reception hall, there are some important questions you need to ask. Once you’ve narrowed down the venue or location you want, here are significant things you need to ask. When it comes to interviewing the management, keep in mind that you are not there just doing them a favor. They are a business and you are hiring this company to provide a very important service, so you shouldn’t hesitate to ask them all the questions you want. Before any funds are turned over, make sure first of all you are dealing with a reputable company and that your representative is experienced. Ask how long the company has been in business, and how many events they have hosted, and if in fact, they have hosted weddings the same size you are planning. Ensure they have up-to-date health permits and proper licenses, and ask what kind of insurance coverage they have. Always ask for several references and phone numbers of folks they have served in the past. Be sure to follow up. Call these people and do some digging to see what their experience has been. Find out, for instance, whether the snowflake wine stopper is included in the price, or not. You will find that the majority of reception halls just rent out the space, and everything else including those special wedding favors you may want, you will have to supply yourself. In fact, you may have to supply the chairs, tables, table settings, favors, food and even the servers! On the other side of the coin, there are halls that offer package deals and take care of everything which includes the setup, clean-up, food, favors, stocked bar, servers, wedding cake, champagne toast, valet parking, coat check and yes, even the silver snowflake stopper, if you’ve requested it. You’ll find that most reception halls fall somewhere in between these two extremes. If the hall offers on-site catering, don’t make the assumption that they will automatically provide tableware, glassware or even the flatware, as this cost might be extra. If you’re planning a casual wedding with a potluck buffet to cut costs, make sure the hall can accommodate that arrangement. Be sure to check if the servers, coat check, valet parking, etc, are included in the cost, or if there is there an additional cost. How about providing food or beverages for your band or DJ, for the wedding professionals and the photographer, and are they included in the head count. Get an itemized list of everything they include right down to the snowflake stopper, if you request it! Ask also about which services they do not offer, just to be very clear. How about other events planned for the same day? Many halls have multiple event rooms and you need to know exactly what type of event is going on before, during, and after your wedding reception. Are the rooms divided by removable partitions? This is important as you could get DJ sounds pouring through from another event and drowning out your band. If your event lasts a long time, will you have to hurry your guests out to accommodate another crowd coming in? This is especially important during the busy wedding season, which falls between May and October. Saturdays, also, are the most popular day, so remember that a popular facility with multiple halls may be fully booked and hosting more than one event. Know exactly what you can expect and ask the managers how they are prepared to handle the crowds. In the event something goes wrong, find out whether office staff or management will be on site for the event. This is important as your parking valet may not show up or the plumbing in one of the bathrooms may pose a problem. If something does go wrong, you will want the peace of mind to know that a qualified person will have the experience and authority to take care of the crisis for you. Know where to find them and request that a person with qualifications and experience is provided. Finally, get a detailed explanation of their financial policies, when the deposit is due, how much they require, are installment payments acceptable, and when the final payment is due. Also, are there overtime charges, if so how much and what is their refund policy? Are there any guarantees or warranties? Get everything in writing so there are no misunderstandings, and get a complete understanding of each issue before you sign up!
