How Mood and Food Affects Weight Loss

Friday, December 21st, 2007

By Gary Gresham Your mood and food can trigger urges that can cause overeating. Eating for some people can be a way of suppressing or soothing negative emotions. These emotions could be stress, anger, anxiety, boredom, sadness and loneliness. The connection between mood and food turn these emotional eaters toward comfort foods in times of trouble. They do not necessarily eat more food but they turn to more unhealthy foods. Starchy, sweet, salty and fatty foods can seem to provide comfort but are usually short-term fixes. They can also lead to a long-term habit of unhealthy eating in response to negative feelings. This leads to weight gain and even more negative emotions that can be a never-ending cycle. Understanding the reasons that cause you to crave unhealthy foods can help you avoid giving in to your cravings. Knowing some signs that trigger emotional overeating can help you recognize the path before you take it. How your body reacts to these moods may indicate that some foods might have a seemingly addictive quality for many people. Scientists are studying the possibility that sweet and fatty foods might actually relieve anxiety. For some people, eating comfort foods can be a distraction. While you are eating, your thoughts may be focused on the pleasant taste of the food, but the distraction is only temporary. When you are finished overeating, you return to your problems and have now added the additional burden of feeling guilty about overeating. Here are a few tips to help you avoid the unhealthy consequences of emotional overeating: 1. Learn to recognize if your hunger is real. Are you really hungry or is it emotional overeating? 2. Monitor your eating for the next several days, making note of how much and when you eat, how you are feeling and if you are really hungry. A pattern will begin to develop and you can recognize the negative triggers to overeating. 3. If you feel the need to eat because of your mood, try taking a walk, go to a movie or call a friend to distract you. This gives you a second chance for the feelings to eat to pass. 4. Don’t keep starchy, high fat, high calorie, comfort foods in the house. 5. If you feel you just have to have something to eat between meals, make healthy choices. Keep fresh fruit, pretzels or low fat, low calorie foods available. 6. Try to eat your meals at the same time every day and stick to the basic food groups. Fill up on whole grains, vegetables and fruits, as well as low fat dairy products and lean meats. When you eat like this you are more likely to feel full longer and avoid the need for emotional eating. Emotions can trigger cravings for food but you can take steps to control those cravings. The correlation between your mood and food can affect your eating habits and ultimately your weight loss. Learning to recognize the signs is the first step to success. The Increasing Popularity Of Destination Weddings

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

By Shaunta Pleasant The past few decades have seen many trends in weddings and wedding planning, but it seems that destination weddings are definitely here to stay. Gathering the wedding party and invited guests in a great destination resort is a great way to get any marriage off to a great start, and the wedding party and wedding guests alike will enjoy the opportunity to turn a wedding celebration into a great vacation. There Are A Variety Of Possibilities When Planning A Destination Wedding There are nearly as many possibilities for destination weddings as there are brides and grooms, and these great wedding celebrations have been held in beachfront resorts, mountain towns, big cities and small villages from coast to coast and from one corner of the world to the other. Making Your Destination Wedding A Reflection Of Your Ethnicity Often these destination weddings are a reflection of the ethnicity of the bride and groom. For instance, a couple whose roots lie in Italy may choose to travel to their ancestral homeland, perhaps enjoying a spectacular destination wedding in Rome, followed by a wonderful Roman holiday as a honeymoon. Choosing A Romantic Place To have A Wedding Or the true romantics among us may choose destination weddings in that most romantic of cities Paris. Paris has certainly seen more than its fair share of wedding celebrations, and the city of lights is a popular locale for both wedding celebrations and honeymoons. Planning Ahead And Being Flexible Planning destination weddings does take a bit more work than planning an ordinary wedding down the street, but it does not need to be overwhelming. As with planning any type of wedding, the key to bringing off a great destination wedding is to plan ahead and to be flexible. You Can Hire A Wedding Planner Or Do It Yourself Planning ahead is vital when it comes to destination weddings, since there are so many additional things that must be taken care of. You will of course still need to shop for wedding bands, choose the perfect wedding cake and send out the invitations, but you will also need to book a block of hotel rooms, help wedding party members and guests with plane reservations and possibly passport concerns, all while still shopping for the perfect wedding dress. When you consider all the things that must be done for destination weddings it becomes apparent why planning well in advance is so important. You can hire a wedding planner or do it yourself. Removing Conflicts of Interest in Hospital Peer Reviews

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Skip_Freedman] Skip Freedman In terms of satisfactory outcomes, its widely known that medical peer review inside hospitals and medical groups is at best complex and at worst conflictive. Internal hospital peer review is an inherently broken system that often leads to conflicts of interest among the doctors working there. As a result, internal hospital peer reviews often arent completedor worse, swept under the rug. Part of the problem is that most hospitals dont have the depth of specialist medical knowledge to conduct effective peer reviews. Often, the doctors on a peer review panel have conflicts of interest because of colleague relationships. For example, they may be friends with another physician; or, they may compete economically; or, they could even be involved in a nonmedical legal action with another doctor, like a custody or property lawsuit. Given these conditions, it can be difficult for hospital colleagues to make decisions based solely on the medical facts involved in the case without invoking their personal situations or opinions. This makes conflict of interest one of the most difficult issues to overcome when conducting peer reviews among colleagues working together in a hospital. Most risk and quality managers in hospitals understand this issue and an increasing number of them are turning to independent review organizations (IROs) to gain unbiased hospital peer reviews and establish a best management practice. Outsourcing to a third-party IRO immediately removes any conflict of interest for a hospital and speeds up case resolution. A good reputable independent review organization can offer a panel of specialists in all specialty and sub-specialty areas, as well as a group of actively practicing, board-certified and licensed doctors. The IRO can quickly match a specific peer review case with a specialty or sub-specialty from its panel and assure the hospital that the specialist conducting the case review does not have conflict of interest. Often IRO physician panels have specialists from around the country so its easy to select one from a different state where there is little possibility of a conflict. In addition, all cases are handled anonymously. As a result, a peer specialist on an IRO panel is able to preserve anonymity — and a high-level of objectivity — when reviewing a doctors case. Many of the hospitals that initially contact AllMed are in delicate situations. Sometimes they have already been involved in litigation for a bad outcome related to a doctors misdiagnosis or treatment. Hospitals that want to increase their care quality, improve patient safety and manage sentinel events or negative outcomes can do that quickly and efficiently by outsourcing hospital peer reviews to IROs. AllMed has dozens of clients, including hospitals from some of largest medical groups in the United States, that are outsourcing hospital peer reviews as a best practice to remove any possibility of conflict of interest. About AllMed Healthcare Management Founded in 1995, AllMed is a URAC-accredited Independent Review Organization (IRO) serving insurance payers, providers, TPAs and claims managers nationwide. Reviews are conducted by board-certified physicians in active practice. Does Online Dating Work?

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

By Adrian Knight Dating Online is currently the Internets biggest craze, and its here to stay! But does it actually work? I mean, there are tons of Dating websites, but their success with matchmaking is kept rather low key, and I found out why. When I was searching for Online dating websites, I felt that I couldnt trust many of the companies and that they were just trying to get money out of me. After many hours of research I was exhausted by the idea of Online Dating, it just seemed more hassle than what it was worth, but I was determined to see it through. A lot of websites that I researched were either free or had rock bottom membership fees, and I found that these were the worst to go to, bar a few exceptions. Eventually I found a handful of websites that I could trust and were worth the money that they were charging, but it just took so long to find these trust-worthy sites. So I signed up and begrudgingly paid the membership fee. One of the most important aspects I learnt early on is that your personal profile that you place on the dating website should be immaculate! By this I mean spend time modifying and perfecting your profile, as this is what counts the most! The last thing you want is to be receiving messages from other adults who are just not right for you, its better to make contact with another adult who is very similar to yourself, than to make contact with 10 adults who only share a few similarities. Eventually I started meeting other people who were very compatible to myself, and as a result have made 2 great friends who are now a major part in my life and have been going out with my long-term girlfriend for over a year (Im planning a trip to New York at Christmas, so that I can propose to her!) Online Dating has worked wonders for me, even though its taken time to get their, and I Strongly believe that if you spent time looking for the right Dating website, thats suits you and your needs then you will also have similar success. This thought gave me a brainwave. I thought how great it would be if their was a website that had a list of all the best Dating websites, that listed these trustworthy companies, so that the biggest hassle is taken away and you can start meeting and communicating with other adults, without having to waste time looking for the best companies. So thats what I did. I designed a website that was split into sections for American Singles, Gay personals, Jewish Singles and Christian Dating, with the best dating websites for each category. It is full of information about Online Dating, with reviews of every Dating website and loads of interesting, related articles. There is also help on the best way of writing your personal profile. Best of luck!! Adrian Knight is author of many articles related to Online Dating. He writes truthfully from his own experience of dating Online and has built his website http://www.a1-romance.com to help others avoid the same sticky situations he got himself in. Do You Have the courage to ignore the experts?

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

By Graham Harris Do you have the courage to ignore the experts? Do you have the willingness and ability to understand and use the power that is within you? Courage is that state of mind when you do something that you know is right for you and your loved ones and the rest of the world thinks youre mad. The ability to make the decision and then make it happen. Courage is not progressing through life with gay abandon, ignoring all the fears. Quite the contrary. Courage is an understanding of fear. An understanding of what to fear and what not to fear. Courage is the ability to challenge what is deemed to be common sense. The world will constantly knock the courageous because they want mediocrity. They want mediocre players and people. People who dont rock the boat. People who do what they are told. People who willingly stay within the rules even though they know they are causing harm to others. Pause for a moment. Just think . Does it take courage to make the latest technology go faster, make it bigger, more complex than the last edition? Does it take courage to add to what already exists? For us, courage is shown by those who fight for something new. Follow their dream and see the benefit of going in the opposite direction. The question is do you have the courage to do what you want? To touch your potential. Do you have the courage to speak out for what you believe in? Do you have the courage to go for it? Remember when you were a child. Were you curious? Were you a risk taker then? No doubt you had lots of courage when you were a child. You did many things based on a focus and no evidence. As a child no doubt you trusted the processes of life. So whats different now? If you are now feeling a huge resistance to going forward to naming your aim and objective, to realising your potential. Dont worry its normal. The resistance is a normal way of moving forward. Its your natural brake that is saying hang on a minute lets have another look at this. Every time you meet resistance within yourself or others it means you are growing because only as you start to think and state something outside your box do you encounter opposition. So dont be discouraged and write yourself off. Stay with it. You see, the feeling of fear and not following your beliefs was no doubt planted in your childhood. The time when you were told that you ought to value money. That you ought to save. You need to be careful, you need to have heroes and follow others. Perhaps instead we should have been taught to respect money but to be generous with it rather than be thrifty. Perhaps we should have been taught to go for our dreams rather than settle for security. As Andrea Dworkin, the feminist and civil rights activist, stated in one of her speeches: By the time we are women, fear is as familiar to us as air. It is our element. We live in it, we inhale it, we exhale it, and most of the time we do not even notice it. We think it applies to men as well as women. Well at least Graham says it applies to him. Every time he thinks of stepping out of his box, fear is present. So there isnt a fearless state. We just have to accept it and carry on. What is that phrase? Feel the fear and do it anyway. Start by looking at your aim and objective. What is your aim? Do you have one? Is it a general I want to earn $50,000 a year or is it more focussed on an activity. For example, I want to tap into, understand and use the power that is within me. I want to assist others to do the same. All you need is an aim and the willingness, the courage to make effort to implement it. Once you have your aim the hard work really starts. Now its time to practice, practice, practice. To read all you can around your subject. To buy all the books that will help you. Go on courses that will help. Meet successful people in the sphere of your chosen aim. Pick everyones brain. Whatever needs to be done to reach your aim. Dont worry about your capabilities they will come. If you have chosen the aim from your heart, from your subconscious then the capabilities will follow. How do you know your aim is chosen from your subconscious? Because you have no doubts about it. It feels comfortable. More than that it makes you get up in the morning. As they say, the journey begins with a first step. Now; do you have the courage to take it? Do you have the courage to ignore the experts and do what you really want to do in the world? Its up to you. Courage charms us, because it indicates that a man loves an idea better than all things in the world, that he is thinking neither of his bed, nor his dinner, nor his money, but will venture all to put in action the invisible thought of his mind. A Recycled Gift Basket

Friday, December 14th, 2007

By Michele Rogers When a person receives a gift basket for a gift, seems many of the gift baskets end up out in the trash or in the garage. With the right ideas a gift basket can be used many times over. A gift basket can be given to a friend at an occasion filled with many items that they like. You can build a theme around what they like. For example if its for a friend and she like spa items and loves taking baths all the time, then let her know you care. Purchasing items for a bath is simple, from bath salts to bath foam, to bath milk and a simple candle will do the trick. Lets just say you receive a gift basket from a friend and you love the basket its self. The color matches where you have put it. The place is perfect where you have put it. You do not want to get rid of the basket. Then buying some beautiful silk flowers would be perfect for this. Also, you dont like silk flowers, well then depending on the size of the basket you can use it for magazines. Larger baskets are great for magazines and even bath towels. For small baskets, you may want to purchase your favorite potpourri and put it in the basket. This you can leave on a table or if you have small kids, maybe high on a shelf. Either way the scent will bless your room. Baskets today come in so many colors, sizes, and shapes. The thought is endless as to what you can fill your favorite basket with. So dont throw away all those old baskets, recycle them and give them to friends and family at holidays and enjoy in their surprise with what you have made for them. Deferral Or Waitlisted: What’s The Difference?

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

By Chris Stout You stalk the mailman everyday. Youve been waiting for months and months, and you just cant wait any longer. You turned everything in, complete and on time. Advanced Placement (AP) classes bloated your GPA. Youre SAT scores were way past the minimum requirements. Youre personal essay was Pulitzer-esque. You had a letter of recommendation from Colin Powell himself, but still no answer. Then one day it comes. Your offer letter is either good news, bad news or maybe. The maybe comes in the form of deferrals and waitlists. With bad news, you move on. With good news, you look forward. If you get a maybe, youre moment of truth is postponed, and youre stuck in limbo. If your application is deferred, youve gone through the early action or early decision process. Early action is when you apply for admissions well before the deadline, you will receive an early response and youll have until May to choose whether or not you want to attend. Early decision is quite similar, you apply early and get an early response. The difference between early action and early decision is that early decision involves more commitment. When you apply as an early decision applicant, you promise to attend if accepted. You agree to drop all other college applications. If you are deferred as an early action applicant, your application just gets put into the regular stack of applicants to be reviewed later. If you are deferred as an early decision applicant, youre free from your exclusive commitment to attend, and your application is reviewed through the regular admissions process. In both cases, youre still stuck with maybe. Getting waitlisted is the ultimate dont call us, well call you situation. Youre certainly not out, but youre definitely not in, at least not yet. When you get on the waitlist, you havent been cut completely, but youre a reservist at best. You have to wait for enough accepted applicants to refuse their offers before you can earn a spot on the roster. The degree to which you can be optimistic about the future decision of your deferral or waitlist situation really depends on how the college you applied to handles their admissions process. You could be almost there or not even close, but its best to assume the worst. That way, you can take evasive action and form contingency plans. If you happen to make it, youll be that much more surprised and enthused. But for practical purposes, you should plan to move on. Just in case though, be serious about your senior year. Keep the admissions office apprised of your continued accomplishments. Let them know that you are a dedicated, hard-working student who respects the admissions process, but also let them know that you are worthy of further consideration. Facial Skin Care

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

By Andrew Dekannwarri To me facial skin care is of great importance or so I believe as a person. Its what people look at as first impression, So to keep the face free of spots or any other kind of blemish; I find it a number one priority. To me water is best nourishing agent that you can possibly find. It is also a brilliant detoxifier for the skin, the average grown up person needs just eight pint of water a day to make your skin have the glowing properties that are needed to have great skin. Apart from using the most natural facial cleanser, There are other products out their that you may us to exfoliate and cleanse the face. There are many products out their on the market at the moment that cleanse and exfoliate alike, body butter, sugar scrubs, salt scrubs, antiseptic moisturizers Sutch as tea tree are all known to be good for the skin . There are many companies on the the market that could provide you with some of these skin care products. Some people have skin problems like dry skin spots and other ailments and also allergies, so it is very important that your skin is tested for the products that may cause your skin to irritate you. Some times the best brands may not agree with your skin, in the body care game the top names in natural body products may not be the best for you as an individual. The safest way to determine your ailments and allergies is to consult a dermatologist; He will be able to tell you what skin care products to use by performing a simple skin test which is called a skin patch test. This procedure will tell you what your skin allergies are and what brand of product to use. There are many facial products out on the market today but the secret to good skin care is not to use too many products in one day, choose maybe two or three quay products Sutch as a deep pore facial cleanser, skin toner, moisturizer or sun block cream. You may need to consult a dermatologist before using any other creams like wrinkle lifting products or sugar scrubs, facial butters, and essential oils. Surviving a Long Distance Relationship

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

By Sandra Grauschopf One of the advantages of using an online dating site is that you can meet a large number of singles who share your interests and passions. The disadvantage is that there is a good chance that when you do fall in love, your new flame will hail from another city, state, or even another country. Although loving someone who lives hundreds or thousands of miles away can present unique challenges for a couple, surviving a long distance relationship can form a stronger and more secure bond. Here are five tips for creating a romantic atmosphere, even when you cannot physically be together. 1. Have a Date Night One of the hardest things about being apart is not being able to do normal couple things. However, with a bit of creativity, you can still go on dates. For example, rent the same movie and watch simultaneously, while you talk together on the telephone or through instant messenger. Create a romantic mood by dimming the lights and lighting candles. 2. Play a Game Together Couples that play together, stay together. Luckily, the internet provides a wide variety of games that you can play with each other. Fantasy games like Everquest, board games like Chess or Scrabble, and card games like Canasta or Poker are just a few of the choices available. 3. Fill a Calendar with Reminders Let your sweetie know that youre always together in your thoughts by buying a day calendar and filling it with reminders. Mark special occasions like your anniversary, the next time youll see each other, and romantic holidays on it. On days in between, leave love notes and reminders of wonderful times youve had together. Have a calendar custom-made with pictures of you to make it even more romantic. 4. Give a Kiss for Each Day Youre Apart To help make it easier to bear the time apart, send your lover a treat for each day that youre separated. A Hersheys Kiss, for example, or a box of love letters and poems, with a new note to open each morning will brighten your beloveds day. Surprise kisses are good, too tuck little notes in your sweethearts luggage or hide some in unexpected places around the house after a visit. 5. Dream Together If you cant be together, dreaming about the time when you will be is a good substitute. Send your love an email each morning with a picture of a place where you would like to vacation together, or describe the date that you would like to have that night in detail. Compile a list together of the things that you would like to do, so that you can check them off when you are no longer separated. Surviving a long distance relationship requires love, patience, and creativity. These tips will help you to spark your own ideas for ways to bring you and your sweetheart closer together, even when your bodies are far apart.
